Design Brief
This project was an extensive redevelopment in Lincoln city centre which included the construction of 15 new residential units at Michaelgate and 30 new residential units at the old site for St Martins School on Hungate. Peter Cole Consultants Ltd were appointed as lead Engineer at Michaelgate and provided specialist engineering design services for the site on Hungate. The site is located on a steeply sloping site, contributing to the complexity of the foundations and retaining structure design.
Technical Info
Conventional loadbearing masonry walls provided the primary loadbearing element of the structure with timber first floor and a trussed roof construction. Coordinating specialist foundations and strategic design with the archaeologist was required in order to minimise impact on archaeolical remains. This led to the use of piled raft foundations which minimised the depth of substructure whilst the piles puntured the underlying historical remains infrequently.
