Design Brief

William Farr school wanted to increase the available facilities by a number of modifications and alterations. The additions to the school included an extension of the dining room, a new classroom block and new performing arts centre. Peter Cole Consultants were required to provide structural engineering services for all the buildings part of the expansion program.

Technical Info

The foundations required took the form of pads and strips. The shallow underlying geology allowed the foundations to bear onto limestone bedrock. The performing arts building was constructed using a steel frame and composite floor construction.

The dining room extension's superstructure used a steel frame with floors constructed of beam and block.

The classroom block consitsed of a load bearing masonry walls, composite first floor and trussed roof.
